How Nature Endured the Valley Fires

Solo Show-January 2018, Rasmussen Art Gallery,

Pacific Union College.

For several months I studied an acre of land which was burned by the Atlas Peak fire in 2017. The above installation "MEMORY OF THE TREES" was created using large sheets of paper placed on top of burned trees which had fallen to the ground. Then charcoal from nearby burned plant material, and iron oxide from burned soil was use to trace an impression of their bark.  The pieces were assembled into a wall collage.  Burned scrub oak from the site was assembled in the foreground.

Photo Gallery

A fallen Manzanita tree was wrapped with 2000+ feet of red medical tape as a tribute to the red fire retardant that protected sections of the forest.
