God's Eye in The Forest

God's Eye in The Forest was a featured sculpture in my show TRANSFIGURATION  

- How Nature Endured the Valley Fires 2017.

Many trees were destroyed by bulldozer so that fire crews could access the Atlas Peak fire. After the fires were put out I collected a mature Manzanita tree, wrapped it's branches with 2000+ feet of red medical tape, and  titled the sculpture Protected as a tribute to the red fire retardant that protected sections of the forest. 

At the completion of the gallery show, Protected was returned to the forest where it was woven into a natural bramble of Manzanita trees. The sculpture was integrated into the woods through careful editing of existing branches and the addition of 500 more feet of biodegradable medical tape. Soon a new form emerged, and a window or portal to the forest was revealed. The sculpture was renames God's Eye in The Forest.
